Where it all started.

Hi my name is Ellie Sherwood and I'm the creator of Elm BakeAway.


I’m originally from Bridport and I’ve lived in Lover for the past 5 years. I guess you could say that I moved here for love. I finally got married in 2020 after being with Kern for 9 years!!  

Some of you may be wondering why I chose the name Elm BakeAway? Well before I got married my last name was Marston, making my initials E.L.M. Kern, my husband and his family also run Tree Menders a local tree surgery company, so trees are a big part of our lives.  


I have always loved food, baking in particular. When I left school I went straight into working in the restaurant industry whilst going to college once a week, building my skills and working with some great people. I have trained as a Patisserie chef at Brockenhurst College and completed my level 3 NVQ in 2016. I then went on to work at The Bell Inn as the Pastry Chef. I was there for four years until it closed because of covid-19.


I missed working and I had always wanted to venture out on my own but I didn’t have the confidence, so with some encouragement from family and friends I made the massive step in starting my own business. My aim has been to bring a restaurant quality to your homes and I pride myself on using good quality ingredients.  


It’s been over a year since I started and I’m loving every minute of it. I’ve met some amazing people and have picked up a lot of skills I never thought I would have. I can’t wait to see what the next few years bring and how my little business will evolve.
